NEWS: LA Fitness Kicks Out Mom and Son For Training Together

On May 4, 2014 by Physical Culturist

Pumping iron builds a lot more than just muscle for Krista Grubb.

“Through lifting weights and working out, I gained a lot of confidence,”

Grubb said. So naturally she was thrilled when her 13-year-old son Mason also began to take an interest.

“Was really excited to see him lift and see the changes in his body I saw in mine,”

she said.

”It was a good bonding time for me and my mom,”

Mason Halye said.

They started working out together at the LA Fitness on U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor, where she’s a member. She said everything was fine until last week. ”One of the trainers approached me asked what I was doing. I told her I was working out with my son,” Grubb said. The next day she said she found out her membership had been revoked.

“He said the notes say you were training people here. and we have trainers that customers pay for,”

she said. Grubb is in fact a trainer, but she insists they were working out together mom and son – not trainer and client.

”We were just working out and she came and she helped me with my form, and that’s all,”

Mason said.

“It being my son and we’re working out together, it’s insane. Just insane,”

Grubb said. Grubb stated she had recently renewed her membership in full and hasn’t gotten a refund. We contacted LA Fitness’ media relations team multiple times, they have yet to respond.
