One of the biggest risk factors for death in the population today is a low level of physical fitness (measured as your maximal ability to take up oxygen, VO2-max). Regular training where you strive to increase or at least maintain your athletic abilities means that your physical fitness will remain higher and you will live longer!
Not only will you live longer, but you will also most likely be able to take care of yourself and manage your everyday activities for longer without having to depend on assistance from other individuals.
This means that your last years will be more fulfilling and leave you with more choice of how you want to spend your time! Not to mention the countless other benefits of training which we will come to in our future posts!
